Set up by friends and family members, the unwitting “stars” of Scare Tactics are are caught off guard and on camera in elaborately staged horror hoaxes involving movie-style special effects and expert makeup.
“Scare Tactics”, the horror-themed hidden camera show, premiered on April 4, 2003. It was the most watched non-news cable program for the night in adults 18-49 (1.32 million). Delivery among males 18-49 and 18-34 was the best ever for a series premiere in Sci Fi Channel history. Back to back half-hour episodes averaged a solid 1.5 household rating with 2.16 million total viewers.
VH1 has done 3 “40 Greatest Pranks” specials, and a Scare Tactics prank has been the #1 prank every time.
Scare Tactics, hosted by Tracy Morgan, delivered its best-ever full-season for the series on all measures for its third season on SCI FI Channel. The frighteningly funny hidden camera show averaged a 1.1 HH rating reaching more than 1.54 million total viewers (P2+). Compared to Scare Tactics season 2 this is up +22% in HH ratings +49% in total viewers (P2+). The series experienced increases season-to- season in all key demos with 856,000 Adults 18 – 49 (+31%) and 851,000 Adults 25 –54 (+39%).
93 original half-hours have been produced as well as 22 “best of” episodes AND a one-hour Halloween Special called the “Scare Tactics Scare-Tacular”. The “Scare-Tacular”, hosted by Shannen Doherty, was shot in front of a live audience of about a thousand people at Universal Studios, Hollywood.
